The climate variety alone on the Big Island is amazing for a 4,028 square mile region.  Climates range from desert to some of the wettest spots on earth, from tropical beach to snowcapped mountains.  Black sand beaches, an active volcano, and Maunaloa, the tallest sea mountain in the world will give a photographer thousands of photo opportunities.

Flora and fauna are varied and colorful, and some live nowhere else in the world other than Hawaii.  The endangered monk seal, migrating humpback whales of Alaska, and dolphins are all possible subjects for your Hawaii photography outing.  There are 7,000 species of birds, fish and mammals that make their home in Hawaii and one quarter are unique to the islands.

Maui is where Hawaii photography opportunities for catching the endangered Nene goose will occur.  It is also the best place for sighting the humpback whale migration from November to May.  On the Big Island there are wild horses, wild pigs and feral cattle.  A bike ride on any of the islands will provide numerous opportunities and subjects for the lens.

Oahu has excellent botanical gardens, as well as the Dole Pineapple Plantation.  Wild plantlife is colorful and plentiful as well on Oahu.  Oahu is not without its popular Hawaii photography historic sites.  Historic sites provide great subjects and one must see is the Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial.  The only palace on US soil is the Iolani Palace on Oahu.

Take your zoom lens along on a helicopter tour over the island of Kauai.  Breathtaking and absolutely beautiful, it is a feast for your camera.  The “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, the Waimea Canyon is one mile wide, 10 miles long and 3,600 feet deep.  The play of light and shadow upon the canyon walls will be a photographic artist’s joyful find.

Snorkel off the island of Molokini and rent an underwater camera to capture Hawaii photography’s crowning jewel, the capture of a photo of its vast marine life in an opportunistic moment.  Boasting the clearest waters in Hawaii, with an average visibility of between 90 and 120 feet there will be plenty of opportunities for great shots.Hawaii Photography image
