Will you use different metering mode when shooting something outdoors vs indoors?

I had someone telling me that they use different metering modes for indoor shooting then outdoors.  I have been looking around for sound reason why.  And I can't find a good reason why would you.  I'm wondering whether I misunderstood them, or this was simply a preference for that photographer. 

Can you share your thoughts on this?

Personally no to whether in, or out decides my metering. What decides it for me is what I am shooting, and how I want to affect the overall scene. Also if I am shooting for HDR because the dynamic range is too great, I will use spot metering. If the camera will get the scene right range wise, then I will use matrix, for an over all measurement. Spot is also great to isolate a lit subject from a dark background even further. I never use center weighted, simply because it is rare that I am centering a subject.

My metering mode will change with the lighting, subject, and/or the focal length of the lens.  But will stay the same for any given subject just moved from outdoors to indoors.  I will likely change the EC, simply because my Canon 50D often underexposes indoors, regardless of metering pattern.
