B&W Fine Art

So I find myself interested in trying to improve my skills when it comes to B&W fine art images.  As I was culling photos from a recent dance performance I ran across this one and went down a rabbit trail.

Would appreciate any CC on this one.

Yes, yes, I know that technically it's not "white"; I toned it on purpose.

I'm fine with this B&W treatment, likely better than I could have achieved.  Setting, costume, and lighting are potential rabbit trails  .  Mostly I wish that backdrop was not so doggoned close.

Actually, that is helpful. It's live performance photography; lighting is never what I would choose. So I do what I can with what I'm given.

The backdrop, on the other hand.... that gives me an idea that would require me to expand  my photoshop skills. Which I'm always needing.  Off I go....

I do like the shading in this.  I am not well versed in B&W so I can only say that I like it. I do with the backdrop was something different to show off the dancers better, but I know we only get to shoot what is available.  I am anxious to see the post Photoshop product.

I'd PS the heck outta that fold at the bottom of the curtainm (ie, I'd remove it).

I agree RE: the curtain.  Also, I find the backlight (processed or real) behind the subjects just a tad too strong (maybe 1/4-1/2 stop).  I notice it (instead of it being more subtle, which is often better).  Still, as KCook said, better than I could do!
