G'day from Australia!

I'm looking for a good landscape, star shooting lens, is the Canon 10-18mm any good price wise its good and probably wont use it as much as my other lenses.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, I have just started out and own a Canon 60d and now have 3 lenses in my bag but need a a wide angle landscape lens.

Cheers

Heath.

While image stitching can be effective, it's not very practical in quickly changing light.

By way of example, here's a 10-shot pano (over on flickr done at sunset (blue hour) and I had a heck of a time trying to fine-tune the exposures. All of the shots were captured within 30 seconds, and you'd think that would be acceptable, but it's not.

For this reason, I, too, will be acquiring a super-wide-angle lens at some point. Good luck with your hunt.

A panoramic landscape and a wide angle landscape are worlds apart. Why not rent the lens and go and shoot with it. Do what makes you happy. I shoot most of my landscapes with my 70-200mm, so I should not even answer you.

I have a 10-20, and have found that I use it just for architectural subjects and funky car shots.  For almost all natural landscapes my 17-50 is wide enuf.  The 15-85 would be nice, but is beyond my reach.  Too bad nobody makes a crop f/2.8 15-35.  That would be my ideal scenic lens.

Hi all,

Thanks for your advice, will try out the vertical photos and will post some up, where I'm going at the end of this month there is a few good waterfalls to take photo's of, going to do my first sunrise and sunset there as well. Can't wait!

The reason why I was looking at 10-22 or 10-18 is what they recommend for landscapes in a monthly photo magazine.

Cheers

Heath.
