Should I upgrade?

Morning all,

I currently own a Nikon D80 and was wondering what the benefits, if any, would be to upgrading to a more current model.

I have owned the D80 for about 8 years and prior to that I had a Nikon F5.

I don't have any desire to use a preview screen or film videos, just take photographs.

Any suggestions or should I just keep taking care of what I've got?

Thank you!!

Ashton Kutcher aside,

Is the body meeting your needs? A newer body will provide higher resolution and better low-light capabilities, ignoring everything else. If you are mostly taking shots in Auto mode and producing JPGs, and you are getting results you are happy with, it's hard to understand why you would want to change.

Additional consideration: shutter actuations. At some point the camera will have to be refreshed when the shutter stops working. You can use myshuttercount.com or camerashuttercount.com to pull the actuation number from a recent shot.

Serious question.  Do you use the screen on the back at all or do you cover it with tape or something?

Stealthy Ninja: I use the screen to go through the menu settings, and sometimes to review photos.

garyrhook: I don't use the auto mode, I prefer having some control over my shots.

I am considering sending the camera in for cleaning/adjustment or buying new.

I am considering the same thing. I have a D80 as my primary camera right now, I also have no interest in video. The D80 was repaired last year for $300 and worked for one session, and now is broken again ( with a different issue), so i am considering if i should send it in for repair, or upgrade. I have a lead on a D7000 at a great price... has anyone used the D7000? what are your thoughts?
