How are you processing your B&W images? Pho

Afternoon everyone,

I'm looking at adding more B&W photos to what I do and wondering how do most process their B&W images?  Photoshop, Lightroom, Camera Raw or some sort of Plugin?

I have seen a number of choices come up in my searches, but looking for hands on feedback and preference please.

Camera Raw == Lightroom. They have the same engine AFAIK.

I do my conversions in LR, and tweak in PS using some Topaz Labs tools They make a BW plug-in, which you can try out for free.

Nik has "Silver EFX" (?) or some such for conversions.  It's very popular.

Frankly, I think it's more fun to learn to do it myself, thus LR and PS.

:agree:
Yeah that is pretty much how I do it as well. You just use your color channel adjustments to tweak the desaturated image for effect. It is fairly straight forward. You can also add grain by adding noise, but that is only good up to a certain point. The best way to learn is as usual play with it, and more importantly have fun playing with it.

I'm a little torn right now for a favorite. for me it's a tie between Ilford Ilfotec DDX and Adox Adonal. If I am shooting a lot of Pan F Plus then I will stick with the DDX because of the limited shelf life, and for the once in a while shooting I'll go with the Adonal (aka Rodinal) because of the 40+ year shelf life.

For digital conversions I just use Lightroom 4 manually. :)

It is what it is.

Same with me, but most of the time it's in LR
