Recommended step up rings?

9 years 9 months ago #389990 by Dragonflies
I could use some help on a good brand of step up rings.  Just over a month ago, I bought a inexpensive set from Ebay and these are driving me up the wall.  They are constantly getting stuck to my filters and lens.  Anyone recommend a good brand that you have experience with that didn't stick to your filters or lens?

Thanks!

Can't recommend any particular brand per se as I don't use them, but like filters, the inexpensive aluminum ones are the ones to avoid. Try to find brass rings  (if they are out there) as they won't bind so easily...Also, when installing, turn then in the opposite direction first to help avoid them getting stuck.

I went through this a few months back (search here on the forum for other threads and you'll find discussions). I ended up with the Vivitar set, despite some concerns about fit.

While the initial attachment (to a lens, not the camera, just in case) was a scary, they fit quite well. Snug and solid. I have no trouble using them with my 105mm. Can't complain.

Others recommend the Zeikos, but they are bit more pricey.

Oh, for crying out loud. Step-up rings, not extension tubes.  Just ignore me.

(I have a set of Fotodiox rings; so far, so good.)

I use various cheap brands.  I just take care to NOT snug down the ring or filter in the first place.

Yes, don't over tighten. The ones I like most have a brassy feeling to them, heavier than the aluminum ones. I also run my finger across my nose or forehead and then lube the threads when applying. Two points here, 1. I'm NOT that greasy and 2. it seems to work.....:)

Why so serious?

I rub nails through my hair if they are bending because of a knot in the wood. Works every time. I also have some metal generic ones as well. They are aluminum, but I always use a soapstone on the threads, and do not over tighten.
