@#$% external flash stopped working

9 years 8 months ago #393133 by Photo Mojo
I'm at the point where I have checked everything I could think of.  My SB800 has been getting used very heavily with some high speed photography shots I have been taking of water drops.  My batteries are fully charged, I see it's turned on, but when you try to test fire it or fire it in general, nothing happens.

Anyone experience this problem?  Please share what was the problem.  Thank you

Can you tell if the bulb is burned out or not by looking at it? Also the SB 800 has a thermal cutoff switch that may be saying the bulb is too hot when it is not. You could always try contacting these people, they used to be an actual Nikon repair center for the mid west region. They will be cheaper that Nikon for the repair.  www.nikoncamerarepair.com
But most likely the repair will be more than it is worth. If you are really electronically mechanically inclined then doing it yourself is an option. You can get replacement bulbs on Amazon, or Feebay if you go there. Also look on KEH for used flashes if you choose to replace it.
