Vultures are cool, in their own way.

There's a very clear reflection of me in the eye (again).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I rather like these birds.

I think that they fly more beautifully than most other birds.

A bit harsh Nicole to come in with such comments without clarifying quite what you mean, perhaps you could elaborate ???

Fortunately, it doesn't bother me. I wasn't trying to be artistic, I was trying for editorial.

Although it would be interesting to know what "better" means.

I am sure it wouldn't bother you Gary, but it is puzzling that people feel the need to criticise in such a negative way, I know my photographs are far from perfect and I want people to tell me where I can improve and give me their take on things, but only in a constructive way please.
keep up the good work Gary.

Negative comment without a constructive critique means nothing... Don't sweat it... I've been trying to get a decent image of these huge birds. Best I have is an image of one soaring over my head. Looks OK until you pixel peep though. All I had on the camera that day was a 180mm lens & the bird was a good 150 foot overhead. Had to crop the image a lot...Some of these Turkey Vultures have red heads & others have black... Different species I guess.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I like brightening the eyes until you can see my reflection in them :-)  I have a number of animal shots where I can see myself.

I think my favorite part of this image is the fact that you can see through the beak via the nostrils. I captures another one that day with the same feature.

Getting close to that time of year when they will move in here. Go out in the morning and the things are lined up on the corral fence, maybe 30 at a time. More on the fence along the pasture and the fence around the school across the highway. I saw some in the San Diego Zoo years ago and remarked how ugly they were. Couple standing next to me said oh no, they are beautiful.
