Lavender

I have tons of lavender growing around my home. I love the smell the look and how it attracts bees. However I hate trying to photograph it. I have been trying for that perfect close up of the blossom (tiny little things) hence the tube question earlier. I decided to give it a go with my macro but don't think I got anything macro with it.

I like #2 cause it is different. #'s 1 and 3 are traditional, so I think of a traditional style to go with. If you have another light, snoot it and make a spot behind. You could use a filter to add color too (ex. green/magenta).

HTH :)

here is my set up:

I basically have natural light, a tungsten hanging light, or on camera flash. I am saving up for a lighting set up. I just need $850 more dollars :) I am waiting on ordering backdrops till I have business coming in (same with the lights) so I am using a sheet that i keep ironed for photos. I am super low tech and think I may have been better serviced by cutting back on my camera and spent more on lighting and backdrops. Hindsight is 20/20 after all. I am slowly building a stash of things to bump my skills up.

Do you have a halogen lamp? They work great for still lifes. And you can find them for $20 or less.

Once you have the lights, you need to custom white balance using a gray card (WB tool, not exposure tool). That gives you perfect color (and can be used with most ANY light).

Add some aluminum foil to "modify" the shape of your lights and flag off the light from spilling into the lens.

You know have a still life studio, for very little $$.

PS window light is another great still life "light". May need diffused (a translucent reflector or even sheer curtains will work) and something to bounce the light into the shadows. That's a real cheap lighting setup, that has been used by artists for many centuries.

PPS though you can (with a purpose) it's best NOT to mix natural and artificial light. The Kelvin temps don't match and therefore there is no good way to white balance.
