Remote shutter release for Nikon D7100

Hey guys, I'm going to buy one of those 10 stop ND filters and need to get a shutter release for my D7100.  Nikon has a couple options and I've noticed there are some non-Nikon brands too.  Have any of you bought the non-Nikon brand releases and did they work as they should have?

Yes, and yes. The Nikon wired remote is overpriced. I found the tab that holds down the button to be quite annoying, too. I sold it when I picked up an Aputure Coworker II.

There are many reputable choices for wired and wireless remotes now.

Nikon MC-DC2 at B&H, overpriced at 22 bucks? I'd back away from the off brands, if you want a few defective copies, I have a box full....

Why so serious?

I think I paid $30 when I bought mine; at least, that's the number stuck in my head.

Not every non-manufacturer brand is poor quality, IMO. Some, yes. Not all.

I bought my off-brand remote release and its simple, but it works, it was something like 10$ and works fine. Mind you it feels cheap as hell and it is, its a plastic case with a spring loaded button I press, thats it but I don't see why I need to spend the 80$ equivalent of Nikon's version of the same thing.
