I won't bore you with my story, but I need to replace all my gear and I don't have the funds for new.  Where do you guys recommend for buying used gear?

We already know... we've been paying attention.

Your entry price point for the lens (VR II) is around $1500; the going rate appears to still be about $1750. I've seen them on CL for $1500, and I got mine for $1800, practically unused. The VR I is considerably less. The D610 can be had new for $1500, as it's on sale. Looks like a used body is running around $1200 with few actuations.

Good luck.

:agree:   Keh.com, Adorama.com and B&H all have used departments, keep an eye on all of these along with Ebay and Craigslist.  Downside with buying used from private party is no warranty.  So you might want to keep that in mind.

Craigslist has gone down the toilet, they need to figure out how to get that site back in shape.

I have seen some specials on new D610s, and you should weigh the difference between that and a used dice roll. For a couple hundred I would opt for new anyday.....;)

Everyone sells Nikon cameras for essentially the same price. The Nikon website indicates that the body is on sale for $1500. It will be available for that price pretty much wherever cameras are sold: Adorama, B&H, Amazon, etc. You won't find a better deal on the body, but you may get some love for accessories or a lens purchased at the same time. THat's just how buying photography equipment works.
