Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Zoom Lens?

f/1.8 on a zoom?  This is very tempting.  What get's me is why aren't more zooms f/1.8?

Did you read how wide that thing is? 3.1". That's huge.  And it's only that big because it's a very short focal length. We don't see f/1.8 on longer lenses because they would have to be extremely wide.

I'd just be happy if Nikon made a f/2.8 version of the 24-120. Never gonna happen, but I can dream of a fast walkaround lens, right?

Nope, that doesn't compensate for the DoF limitation. And as you should know by know, I'm all about shallow DoF...

Then have more separation between your subject & the background.... Or use a faster ,prime lens...

Well, yes, I get that, but a prime isn't a zoom, and one can't always control placement. Nor would a prime suffice for all possible focal lengths in that desired range. I.e. you often can only back up so far...

So I just carry my 2 f/2.8 lenses with me and deal with swapping them out.

Do any of you have experience with these Sigma lenses?  Any downsides to them?  I share the price temptation.

Not sure if you mean the Sigma zoom or the new Sigma in general.  I got the 35mm Sigma Art f/1.4.    Very happy.  Very.

If you are asking if Sigma makes good glass, yes they are one of the better off brand lens manufactures IMO

The main reason there are not more of these, is the price.:woohoo:
