Think mirrorless is gaining? This chart will have you thinking twice.

I just found this and must say I'm surprised that mirrorless is only 3%.  Not sure where this creator sourced this data from, but if correct then mirrorless is much smaller market than I thought.

The chart seems a little dated. I would think the Sony A7's would show up in there. I know mirrorless has taken off in the last 6-8 months in the group of people I know. I know several who have purchased mirrorless in that time and about half sold off their DSLR's after doing so. I bought one about a month ago. I haven't gotten rid of my big rig yet but I never used it on my last trip. I had it with me but never felt I needed it over the mirrorless.

Not sure which group of people this is representing, but I'm surprised the 5D mk II is beating the mk III. ;) Which shows me this is BEFORE the mk III came out, therefore there weren't that many "pro" mirrorless cameras out there at the time.

Also "World Press Photo" would suggest this is press photographers. Who mainly rely on dslr cameras.

Exactly what I was thinking.

OR the Mark II's just have so many photographers still using.  I'm not sure what to read with this chart.  Never heard of the source.

Perhaps so.  Have no idea where this person sourced their facts, but it was interesting all the same.

AND it is evidently for some country where Fuji, Olympus, and Panasonic are not sold at all?  I would say the chart is irrelevant for most shoppers.:duel:

This quote is from an article dated April 2nd, 2014

Globally, the sales of mirrorless cameras have increased by 24.4% as compared to last year, with the most significant increases in Japan and Europe. In the Americas, however, mirrorless camera sales have actually decreased by 34.2%. The North American market in particular has always been the toughest one for mirrorless camera makers, as it is one of the last remaining DSLR strongholds.

The website is given at the bottom of the chart but it's not in English so I don't know what it says. Part of the chart seems fuzzy while some of it is clear like it was edited or superimposed so I'm not sure what was done. It does say 'world' press but it doesn't look professionally done and doesn't tell where the info. came from.

Unless they have direct plug into the sales numbers of manufactures, I'm not buying this as an accurate representation.
