Guys: How do you ask a woman off the street to model for you?

9 years 7 months ago #396361 by Ryan Obryan
*With out coming across as a pretentious pervert?  I know it's all about the delivery and approach.  I'm somewhat shy at times, and have a tough time asking anyone, let alone a woman if they would model for me.  I would love to get some pointers from those who are comfortable with asking.  How are you doing this?

You'd better have a business card and an online portfolio / website. Practice being comfortable by forcing yourself to talk to strangers.

You walk up, and as courteously and innocent-sounding as possible, card in hand, you say, "excuse me. I don't mean to seem creepy but I couldn't help but notice you practically jump out from this crowd. I am a photographer, and I would just love to photograph you. Without taking any more of your time, here's my card. Please check out my portfolio, understand that I am legitimate, and completely above-board. I will leave the offer open, and if you are interested please give me a call. Thank you!"

Then you start to make your exit. If you come across well you may have piqued their interest enough to have a longer conversation; maybe they'll call.

Past that, you need to be good with people, sincere, and willing to take no for an answer.

IMO.

But it comes down to: just ask.

I'm part of the just ask club.  Act professional, hand her a card and try not to come across sleazy.

As a woman, I'm going to say it's all about your approach.  If you come across like a professional photographer, professional in general, that is going to go a long way.

I guess times have changed. I never had a problem finding "models" or subjects. I never led with the question, as I never carried a pocket camera and it was obvious I was a photographer. Casual ice breakers long before a "do you feel like doing some posing" comes into a conversation. Yes its the approach. Either you're smooth or not........

Why so serious?

Walk up, with a professional attitude hand her a business card, pay a professional non sleazy compliment.  Then ask, you mind if I take your photo?  And offer to send her copy.
