Need help with self portrait and tethering live view?

I want to take some self portraits this weekend and doing my home work now.   I have a Nikon D7000 if it matters, and want to be able to either tether this into my laptop or iPad so that when I'm in front of the camera, I can focus, see what I'm doing, get into position and take the shot.

How can this be done?

:thx2:

You need a program to tether. Nikon has one, and I believe a couple of others do as well. To my knowledge none of them are free. But that is how it is done.

I have only done a self portrait one time, I'm not all that hot! But to do it I went outside to the porch on my pigeon loft. Sat an object on the place where I was going to sit. Then went to the camera, on a tripod, and focused on that object. Then I zoomed to where I was pretty sure I was all in the photo. Took several shot's to get one I wanted. Anyway, after zooming the camera, I set it on the delay timer and went back and sat down looking stupidly into the camera and hoping no one drove by and saw it! Came out pretty good.

You could do the same thing in the house. Just put some object where your gonna sit. It you're using lights, take a few photo's of the object to get what you want then set up, release a timed shot and go put yourself in the photo. Shouldn't be all that hard!
