If you are printing...

I'd like to share some newly acquired information with fellow PT'ers who do their own printing.
I wanted to make a really good print Epson 3880)  for a portrait I recently sold, and I decided to try a Baryta paper: Red River San Gabriel, 17x22. Extremely delicate, you can't look at it too hard or it will dent...:) . It also soaks up ink like an old rummy pirate...to the point of buckling.
I had to discard several attempts ( widen platen gap, reduce density, increase drying time, you name it...) before arriving at viable settings for the printer (with great help from Red River, whom I finally called...).
Well, it was worth all the effort: I think it is the best portrait print I've been able to produce so far, and I recommend this paper (probably less difficult in smaller sizes) to any fellow masochists. . For reference, I post again (apologies) the image in question: (please, click the thumb)

Thanks for the tip, image is kind of small.  When you uploaded did you click embed?  That will make the image show in your post here.

Oh I see what you have done.  This shot is very sharp, I'm sure the print looks amazing.

BTW why not embed the photo in the post so we don't have to click to another site?

Thanks, I'm very pleased with it.
I'm very familiar with posting images directly to a thread. I did it until someone kindly told me how to bring in full images from Flickr. For some reason, I can only put a thumb link to the image now: Flickr must have changed something.
As to why: the uploading engine on PT was awful, until the fine upgrade to the site. It is now somewhat better, but it still alters images unacceptably. I prefer my work be represented by images that are reasonably close to my original. Flickr does that.
Sorry for the extra work

John,
After you select the image in your photo stream, and it opens up on the black bkgrnd, and you click on the "share" icon at lower right, and you select BBcode, you should see below the code selection an image size displayed.  To the immediate right of that image size, you'll see a "v."  Click that and a drop-down menu should appear, giving you the option to select any size from small square up through whatever original size you uploaded to Flickr.

That is a magical shot.  Skin tones are perfect and you have captured her emotions so well.  This photo you can feel the music she is playing.  I'm a fan of your work.

Extremely generous of you to say that!
Successfully expressing and communicating the concept and aesthetic goals behind an image is a photographer's most meaningful reward. Thank you!

WOW, I feel like working on portraits.  Inspired.  Was this natural light of the auditorium or did you have a flash of some sort?

Thank you, first of all!
I posted this image to share what I found to be an amazingly good paper. The problem for those of us who print their work is being able, or unable, to produce a print that matches the quality of the screen shot we have refined to our satisfaction.
Much work is involved, but there are some papers that reward it. With San Gabriel, after many attempts (and some expense: it's not cheap...), I was able to do just that- produce a print that is extremely close to the screen shot that made the sale for me. A pain ..., but worth it!

:agree:   I was thinking the same thing.  I really like everything about this photo including what you have pointed out and down to the slight silhouette of the piano top in the back and I like the faint "Yamaha" logo on the side.  This is technically strong photo in my book.
