What do you think is the most important ingredient to a GREAT photo?

The photos for me that stand out as being great photos have a wow feeling, or something that you look at and you are completely drawn into it. You see it and you can't pull your eye off of it. That is what makes a good photo for me.

I think the most important ingredient is the photographer. A great idea/location to start with. To make good great, a bit of luck.

I agree 'light' is #1. And not just the snarky way that ya kinda need light to create a photograph. But how the light is used. Using light different ways can tell different stories (the #1 of others). Composition is good too I'd say and post-processing for sure is the difference between a good photo and great one. For example, me and a friend walked around Chicago at sunrise and took many of the same pictures. I edited them in Lightroom and she didn't. Clearly our two 'same' pictures resulted in different impacts due to post processing.

Vision comes first, wish out it, no matter how much light you have, if you don't have the vision, the ability to see the shot, you'll never get it.

Light, and dark, with good composition. Face it if you have those two right, you can make the mundane into something interesting.

I'm going to have to agree with Joves on this one.  I had an answer I was going to put here, but I like his answer better.  Might I add have some motivation and creative thought into photography would be a nice 'add on'.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said from the get-go.
