Preference: Limited tilt vs fully articulated display screen?

9 years 6 months ago #401895 by Silver Fox
Like many of you, I waited till fall months to see what new cameras would be coming out.  I'm a Nikon guy, and not really thinking about moving to Canon, but maybe Sony.  I show the Canon because I thought this movement was kind of cool and could be handy to have.

My question is really a trivial one:  which would you prefer:  the tilt (as shown with the Sony) or the fully articulating screen (as shown with this Canon)?

My old Canon S3 IS ultrazoom had the full articuation.  Fancy, but I don't do selfies, and the older I get the less I value fancy, a simple tilt would suit me today.

Easy one for me - articulating

My T3i display is articulated and it's handy as hell. I'm viewfinder-oriented, but I'm also tall, so getting down low is a lot easier with the LCD. High-angle shots, like the moon, are a lot easier, too, since a tripod would have to be about 84" to make it easy to use the viewfinder.

The only problem with either of these is that it adds extra weight and bulk.

True, but that is where the handyness comes into play.  Down low, up high, off to the side... getting the good shot becomes easier.

I think negligible on both counts, and a small trade-off for a great deal of convenience.

Even if it isn't "professional"... meh.

Happy with either, but if I had to pick, I would go with the articulated just for the movement.

Same with me, if you are going to have the added movement, why not the most.

I prefer the Sony one, less things to break and you can safely ignore it like I do on my A7.

My thinking as well.  Never actually broke the swivel on my Canon S3 IS, but it was a concern.

I would be happy with as much movement as I can get, so put me down for articulating
