Is A Free Light Meter App As Good As A $$$ Hand Held Unit?

9 years 6 months ago #402326 by ubookoo
I see several Light Meter Apps online for the iPhone (probably Android also). Some are free and some cost a few dollars.

Have you tried any of them? Hard for me to believe they really are as accurate as a hand held light meter but then again I don't see why not.

What do you think?

I don't use a light meter much myself, but I have a buddy in my photography club that uses one to confirm what his camera is suggesting.  I'm not sure about the name of the app.

I have two light meters, from the film days. The modern meters in camera are pretty good, and I stopped carrying my Seconics long ago. With digital its really too easy to shoot, view and adjust if necessary...;)

Why so serious?

Cool, I didn't know there were light meter apps.  Which are you all using?

The one I am using is called "Pocket Light Meter". I really like it and it is free.

:kmonst:

The only reason I can think to use one these days (apart from shooting film) is if you're doing green/blue screen and you want to make sure the lighting is even across the whole screen.
