Would you rent out our camera and lenses?

A friend of mine just asked if he could rent my camera and gear for a Halloween party.   He has offered $175 to use the camera for the weekend.  He has asked me to show him how to use the camera too.  For technically just 1 1/2 days, would you rent your gear out?

No, no, and no. Never to a "friend". That's what BorrowLenses.com is for (or similar).

I have rented lighting from a friend, also a pro photographer, and would reciprocate, but not to an amateur. Let them buy or rent their own equipment. I won't comment on the wisdom of taking the equipment to a "party".

I must concur with Hook. That is simply a recipe for disaster, I've seen it before and more than a once.....:(

Why so serious?

My stuff isn't anything special, and my answer is still a big N O

  :agree:
With all of the above statements. Ummm! Is that not what the cellphones/p&s cameras are for? Casual drunken events where you do not want to endanger your equipment. There is about only one person that I would ever allow to use my gear, and they would not even ask because they have no interest in it.

Gary's 'no's have it! Not for a kiddie Halloween party with bobbing for apples, not for a grown up party with appletinis.

Seriously, suggest some places where your friend can rent whatever he needs. He may not realize it's easy enough to rent photography equipment, then if something accidently happens he wouldn't have to worry about feeling responsible for it.

Absolutely not.  Unless they were willing to replace the camera full value if something, anything happened to it.

My sister asked to use my camera this past weekend.    My sister.  And the answer was still no.

I don't mind someone who is standing by me, using my gear.  However using while I'm not around?  I'll pass.

Thank you for making PhotographyTalk.com your photography community of choice.
