Gaffer tape

Does all gaffer tape leave residue behind?  I bought a roll a few months ago from a local camera store.  Every time I use it in warm conditions, and leave it on for more than a few hours, it seems to always leave a sticky residue behind.  Is there a preferred brand of this stuff?

Always has when I used it in warm conditions. You could use some other form of tape to set your marks. I have even used cheap electrical tape as gaffers tape before. It comes in all sorts of colors. Sometimes though it will give you kittens about sticking on some surfaces.

You might look at some of the painter's tapes, which come in various levels of adhesion.

I've only used gaffer's tape indoors, so have not run into that problem. Still better than duct tape in any event.

Never keep on long when using outdoors.  All the tape I have ever used, always leaves some residue behind.
