Love being behind the camera, but hate post processing?

Topic in my photography group over the weekend was this.  I rather enjoy both being behind the camera as well as the post processing side.  It was funny because one older woman (it's a women's photo group) just went on and on about how post processing has ruined photography.  People are too dependent on it.

Surprisingly the group seemed to be nearly half in favor of enjoying post processing.  While the other half either were on the fence, or just hated it.

Where would you stand on this topic?

I hated it, until I learned Lightroom.  The right tools make a HUGE difference!

I get very frustrated with PP, a bit much for me to learn, no attention span I guess. But then I'm not always looking for a perfect photo either. Just a nice one I can enjoy. I fooled with my Nikon program again last night. Been fooling with it on and off for several years. I have learned to get a photo into it but when the photo is gone, I have no idea where it went! If your chasing perfection in a photo considering what you think you saw as opposed to what was really there, you need PP!

I'd hate not to be able to post process! LR5 lets me do nearly all I need and there are plenty of tutorials on UTUBE!

I have always loved being behind the camera more than processing. But both are a part of it to some extent. I used to get a lot of rolls of film shot before I got in the mood to develop them. Then there was the post work for those you wanted to print. I shoot both RAW, and Jpeg at the same time, and tweak my cameras settings for the Jpeg. If it works out then great if it does not then there is always CS for minor tweaking. Or if I screwed the pooch too much there is the RAW file to work with. It is all a matter of getting what I wanted from the shot, if it needs work then I do it, if not then I am happy.

I'm rather fond of post processing, but I do agree that Lightroom has made things so much more enjoyable!

80/20 rule

80% behind camera and 20% post.  Works that way with the whole process.

OK but LR can rescue photos from the bin!

If they are RAW photos, it can sometimes do that.

:agree:
Yeah depends on how far you screwed the pooch, and which camera manufacturer it is. If you are speaking about totally blown out highlights, then you are screwed. The only way I have ever worked them out is by lassoing them, and replacing the area. Sometimes it works and looks good, and others I facepalm.

Well, seeing that I'm an outdoor sort of guy, it would be counterproductive to spend more time indoors than out.  So, post processing doesn't bother me, however I do prefer prefer being behind the camera.

I don't mind post processing and at times it can be fun.  But when I have 500 photos from a wedding or corporate job that need to be touched up over the weekend.  Then... it doesn't become fun, but mundane.

I don't hate post processing, but it's not my favorite part of the photo taking experience.  When I have a ton of photos that need to be edited I tend not to enjoy it as much as if I'm just working on one image.  That's just me though.
