Tripod a requirement for landscape photography?

9 years 4 months ago #415443 by Mike Ayrouth
I don't know how many of you enjoy shooting landscapes.  I do, and was just thinking.  Most of my landscape photography shots are done during day light and very rarely require longer exposures.  So what happens 90% of the time is I go out, carrying my tripod and don't use it. :pinch:   I mean this is great, I get my exercise and save on a gym membership.

Just curious, do you always bring out your tripod or just when you know you'll be doing some longer exposed shots?

Landscape, and longer exposures? Of course, the tripod goes along. On longer walks it doubles as a walking stick.....;)

Why so serious?

Well even for my screaming fast shutter speed shots, I will usually as good practice use my tripod.  So I'll bring my tripod with me nearly all the time.  One of the legs screws off mine and I use that as my walking stick.  The rest of it goes strapped to me backpack.

Yes, but those days that you don't have long exposures to do, will you bring your tripod with you?

As much as I hate to carry more than I need, I always carry my tripod with me.

I always take my tripod. You don't have to though, do what you like. I have many times in the past set my camera on my bag, or a rock wall etc, when I didn't haul a tripod along. Do what works, no?....;)

Always have mine with me as well.  Just a habit for me.

100% always with me.  I have a monopod, but honestly don't use it that often.  Unless I'm photographing something on the fly, I use a tripod.  Better safe than sorry.

Being a woman, I don't like to carry more stuff then I need too.  However I always have my tripod with me.  It's just one tool I don't want to be without.

I have 3 tripods, which means I always have at least one with me.

Instead of a tripod, I'll carry a small pillow and use whatever support I find outdoors.  I've used the pillow on the hood of my car, on a fence post, etc...I'm limited to what I can carry and the pillow method is lightweight and easily carried.

Every body I ever knew that took really good landscapes always used a tripod. And they use a remote release or cable., I don't have a remote for my digitalis so if I was going to do a landscape with them and hope for the best picture I'd use the timer which means I'd need a tripod. Oh, and I do have a tripod. About a 30 yr old aluminum Bogan. Bit heavy but I put my RB on it and it doesn't falter at all. RB is pretty heavy!

I always have a tripod/monopod with me in the vehicle. As to which I take on any given occasion depends on how far I am trekking, and what I want when I am shooting. Also what mood I am in. Is a tripod a requirement? No it is not, but in reality it helps.
