What about an Uber for photography gear?

There's an idea that I'm surprised no one has jumped on yet.  Rent out your gear you aren't using.  Uber style!

Canon 5d Mark II • Canon 24-105mm F/4.0 • Canon 135mm F/2.0 • Canon 50mm F/1.8 • Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 • Canon 580ex ii

This sounds like a logistical nightmare

Another thing, how would you protect yourself from the false claims "my lens is scratched" and I want to be compensated.  You would have to have visual confirmation of every item that is being rented out.

Good idea, but would never work.  To much risk.

No way, I would never do this.  Have you seen what happens to normal rental gear?  This is asking for your gear to get mistreated.

Why so serious?

You kidding me?  Most the photographers I know are uptight about even letting a friend use their gear.  Let alone a complete stranger.

Lol no thanks, I don't even lend SD cards anymore to friends after an incident of not getting one back and acting like a debt collector for a day :)

Technically for it to be a "Uber for photography gear", that would mean you would hire a photographer and they would show up with their equipment.  Meaning the photographer who owns the gear would still have control of their gear.  I think what you are explaining would be more like a Airbnb platform.

Either way, I don't see this as a good idea, not in the photography market.
