So after 11 years, I'm back in photography and my new camera will be arriving any day now. I just came back from my morning walk in the park and I just realized something. Every person who I walk by who is holding a camera, I'm not more fixated on what brand and model their camera is than any other feature about that person. They could have a green head and with tentacles coming out of their ears, I'm still looking at their camera.
I somewhat kind feel like a voyeur (not in a creepy sexual way) only focused on one thing. What camera gear do they have.
I did stare years ago, but that would have been a reason to start a conversation or to divert the existing conversation.
Over the years I found out that people with an old body and a 50mm lens can teak great shots and someone with a 5Diii and a 400 2.8 takes dreadful shots. I'm more into results.
I scout locations lately and get into the multimillion mansions. If they hang photography as art, I do not care to stare, I go right up, study it, compliment the owner on hanging photography as art...
I get eyed up all the time I have my camera out by other photographers. Often they look at me with disgust lol. I don't get why its like comparing cars or how muscular you are.
Yes, I will take a look at the camera out of curiosity, but I won't eye you down to make a judgement upon you based on the camera.
I can't say that I've ever noticed anyone checking out my equipment.
I do like to see what others are doing/shooting, but I try to be discreet so as not to make anyone feel self-conscious. Otherwise, I'm only concerned with my own work.
OP: It may be that you are excited about your product on order, and once in your hands all of your attention will be on using that. Maybe.
Ya never know. At one local park that is popular for photography I came across a young guy with a DSLR on a tripod, trying to take selfies. It was pretty evident he was new to this (especially the tripod). So I offered to get his camera off the tripod and take the shots for him. Which he was happy to do. As I get his camera squared away for the first of a series of shots, he launches into a very pretentious pose that you might see on a cheap rock album cover! He was dead serious about this, but I had a hard time keeping from laughing. Nice enough guy, you just never know.
