Business license needed for international destination wedding?

9 years 2 months ago #423649 by Joslyn
I've been asked to photograph a friends wedding in June 2015 in Paris France.  Would any of you know if I need to file for any sort of business license there?  Or anything at all being an American citizen?

I don't think so.  What you will want to do is coordinate with the venue long in advance to see what their requirements might be.  If there are any odd ball requirements, till most likely let you know.

Do either you or your friend live in France? If not, then as far as anyone knows you are doing your friend a favor by photographing their wedding.

Do not go looking for complexity. If you and your friend both live here in the states then your business transaction will be completely domestic.

That doesn't appear to have anything to do with running a business. Sounds like the bride will still have to have a ceremony in the states, though, and going to France is just for show.

That's why I said "not sure about this" and "might be a good start".  I was just trying to help with some spots that might turn up some clues on how to prepare for this.  ;)

Why are we providing information on getting married when the OP wants to know about business issues related to an international job? Unless I"m missing something the job has nothing to do with the wedding ceremony. It has to do with taking photographs, for pay, in another country. But the monetary element is only domestic; France doesn't know and shouldn't care.

Or am I missing something from the OP?

I believe you should be fine, your just taking photos.  However if you will be taking photos at a certain venue, you might need to get permission from that venue.
