Condensation on inside of lens?

9 years 1 month ago #424224 by Sawyer
Hey guys, a friend has just called me on his 70-200mm VRII lens that has some how built up some condensation on the inside of the lens.  He's asking on how to clear this up.  Frankly, I have no idea.

help please.

ewww, from my experience and being on this forum, if there is condensation INSIDE the lens, you are going to have a hell of a time. what I reccomend is getting a lot of silica salt and keeping the lens in that for a while. However that may not work, you are at a risk of fungus growth inside the lens which will destroy the lens.

Tell him he needs to build a simple dry box. You can find instructions online for one. It is really only a light bulb inside of a box that brings up the temperature enough to dry the air inside. There are companies that make them also.

That's a newer lens, is it under warranty?  Should be weather sealed, I'd check to see if the lens can be swapped out.

Even if you can use a drybox or bury it in rice for a few days, the breeding ground for mold is already introduced. Warranties only cover manufacturers defects, but if it were my lens it would already be on its way to Nikon repair if I had to pay the bill or not......:(

Why so serious?
