How do you engaging your couples during engagement shoots?

One of the challenges I face from time to time during engagement shoots is getting those natural looking intimate moments where the photo captures something real, and not staged.

7 out of 10 times, it's the guys who look 'placed' and don't look as if they mean it.  When you have them close their eyes and kiss your bride to be, they sometimes look like a bad Photoshop job.

What sort methods are you using to get around this?

I just position them how I want them, and then joke around with them "Kiss her like you did the first night" stuff like that. It usually gets them laughing and having fun. Sometimes they start laughing to much and you need to wait a minute while they calm down. But usually this works well.

I just coach them into position and have them act till I get the shot I'm after

I let them take a basket with snacks, wine or champagne position them for a good angle, then I step back with a 200mm lens and let them enjoy the time together. Only now and them I have to call them to reposition, because they forget about me. About 90% of the time I'm far away from them and they can whisper sweet nothings to one another.
It takes a lot longer, but they enjoy it and recommend the experience to their friends.

NS. When I feel I do not have the shots, I ask them to do other actions or poses, but by then the camera ice is broken.
