Personal camera insurance as well?

9 years 1 month ago #430731 by Jacko
My equipment insurance I just found out only covers damage to my camera if it's damaged during business use.  Which means, if it's after hours, and I damage my camera.  I'm out of luck.

I just called my homeowners insurance and they were going to charge me $1170 per year, just to cover my camera.  WTH seriously?

Do you have your camera covered for damage on personal time?

You might want to check out www.ppa.com they have some insurance products that might be more affordable.  Are you getting quote on a complete separate policy or add on to existing?

You need to shop your homeowners insurance. I cover all of my gear for about two hundred bucks annually, loss and damage....

Why so serious?

Yeah, I just checked out of curiosity and it changes everything when the gear is used where earnings are intended......

Shop around for an "Inland Marine" policy for your gear...Separate from your homeowners... It will be cheaper

This is an important phrase. I know a professional who had bee assured this insurance covered him UNTIL a boat tipped in South America and he lost $8K of equipment. Fishing it out was not an option since the water was home to caiman and piranha. The agent was misinformed.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Ouch!  So how do they know that you didn't damage on your personal use?

Because personal insurance usually doesn't cover dropping and breaking, certainly not dunking in the ocean. Stealing, perhaps. Commercial policies are for protecting livelihood-centric gear for precisely those events.
