Does stitching images has advantages?

9 years 2 weeks ago #433592 by Pierce Steenken
When you don't have a wide enough lens, just to throw this out there:  stitching images will increase image resolution and sharpness?  Is that 100% correct?  So let's say you stitch 3 images together, side by side.  Would that trump a single shot taken with a wide enough lens?

Resolution yes, sharpness, not so much.  A high quality stitch is a lot of work in post.  Shooting with a WA lens is a breeze in comparison.

Agree wit Cook, however stitching a few shots together for a pano is not as much work as it once was. Using the latest PSCC, its actually easy. The computer grunts for a while though.....;)

Why so serious?

:agree:

The real problem with stitching, and it is not a major one, is the lens used for the pano. If it is a lens with some form of distortion then you have more work. A wide angle lens will also have some distortion, depending on the focal length. Bust as Ernesto pointed out PS has made it much simpler.

Brenizer method is what I was going to post.  I have been working on perfecting this too.  Takes awhile for Photoshop to combine when you have many images.

Stitching together images is awesome but a lot of work on post. I took me a while to work out my favourite combo if lens and orientation.

I currently tend to make pano's; 8 - 11 pics., mostly taken with a wa, stiched together.
You might want to check out Hugin: hugin.sourceforge.net/
Freeware, should be available for MS, Mac + Linux.......
