Limitation to the number of extension tubes that can be used?

Just a quick question for me today.  I'm playing around with some macro photography and have a set of Kenko extension tubes and wondering can you stack 2 sets of these tubes for razor close focus?  At what point does it become just to much?

Depends on the lens, and you will know when you can't achieve focus. That point will eventually end up inside the lens body itself.....:(

Why so serious?

you can but focusing might become an issue. What lens do you have on the end?

As Ernesto pointed out with too many extensions the image will form inside of the extension tubes. That is because the light formed by a lens is a sphere, or a ball. So if you are using a 105mm lens the total size of the ball is 210mm, because the 105mm is in the center of the ball. All camera lenses form the image on the sensor past the focal point, so you only have so much room to move the lens away from the sensor/film. You can actually measure this by using a piece of paper. You hold your lens so it forms an image on the paper, and move it out until it no longer forms an image, or a clear one. Then you will see how far you can move the lens away from the sensor.
