Screws on your camera rusting?

8 years 11 months ago #437202 by Stanly
Anyone else seeing their screw heads on their camera rusting?  I have never touched mine and they all have rust on them.  I'm wondering what I can do about this?

Many years ago I worked taking photos around the South Pacific Islands. Lots of sea spray and salt air. I did have corrosion on screws, the buckles on my straps and a few other bits. Not very good for the camera but I never bother changing them because I figured it would just happen again. It would be worth check with Nikon Service Dept.

IMO I think they could coat the heads of these with something stronger.  I shouldn't have to replace anything.  Well, I think I'll keep as is and just get my tetanus shot updated.

Rub your noise, then rub the top of the screw head.

Lightly sand off the rust, clean the area & then apply a thin coat of clear nail polish over them...

I live near the ocean, my last camera had this problem.  Scott that is a very good idea.  So do you take each screw out one at a time or are you doing this while screws are still in camera?

The rust wouldn't be inside (or shouldn't be) thus I would do it while they are in the camera. Being careful, of course...

Thank you Scott, that is a very good idea.  Going to 'borrow' some of my wifes nail polish now
