Permission & legal question about photographing bride and groom on bridge

8 years 9 months ago #445494 by Frost Photography
I'll be up in the bay area next month to shoot a wedding, my client is paying for a number of different locations ranging from their home, to Napa Valley locations to even the Golden Gate bridge.

My question is pertaining the Golden Gate bridge. She'll be in her wedding gown and her husband in his tux, so these two will be standing out easily from all the tourist. What I want to find out is if I need any special permission to photograph these two on the bridge? Is this considered public space?

Thanks for the help

I believe you will have a tough time with that, might need to check with the tourist center for the bridge for answer.

:agree: exactly, I'm nearly 100% sure you would need permission for this.

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400

Oh yes, you'll need permission for that. Might even get fined if you don't have the proper permission. They will catch you too, they have cameras all over that bridge.

Um, no, it's the National Park Service. Which a quick and simple search clarified. And which is what the OP ought to be doing instead of colleting opinions here.

It's not clear a permit is required. On this page:

www.nps.gov/goga/planyourvisit/specialparkuses.htm

You could walk out, the 3 of you, without equipment, and take pictures in a public area. Maybe even have an assistant with a reflector. No permit required.

Every other page I found discusses commercial use, stock photography, or filming.

The page referenced above has a name. Quit asking here and go find out from the folks that really know the answers.

Pretty true, but considering how tight security is these days around landmarks and considering how important that would be for the client, I would still make the call and get proper permission.
