Trying manual mode

This past weekend I found myself in a situation where I knew the shot's I was going to get were gonna be bad. So I tried shooting in manual. Low strong sun coming right at me so I moved right to get it off the lens and shot. Control area and I couldn't move very far but did get just enough. This is what I got.

Went out this evening with not as low a sun but low enough and set up my dogs for some photo's and did them in manual. First I set the camera in aperture and set the opening I wanted and got the speed the camera was going to use. Then I went to manual and it was set on 1/500 and f9. I shot some shots at a fence post, lowering the shutter speed after each shot. Got down to 1/320 and looked pretty good so that's what I shot. The photo's came out a bit over exposed so I fixed them best I could in my cheap photo program.

Be careful you don't blow highlights, especially with a Nikon cam, which tend to favour the low end of things (darks can be pushed more with Nikon) than the highlight end of things (highlights can be pulled back better with Canon).

Seems you were a bit overexposed with some of them. Did you shoot RAW?

No RAW. Tried if a year or so ago and can't figure out how to work with them. Other than my cheap program all I have is a Nikon program and haven't been able to figure it out. Thanks!

Gonna try this again when I get troublesome sun.

Boy, this is an old thread... I wonder if the OP is still around?
