How to Take Great Home Studio Portraits with a Single Flash Head

9 years 7 months ago #399996 by PT Talker
If you're just getting started with your home studio, you'll enjoy this video tutorial from Gavin Hoey , demonstrating how to work with a single, bare flash head to create great portraits. He walks you through several simple lighting setups and then shows you some awesome Photoshop tricks, so be sure and watch the whole video.

It's probably worth mentioning that Gavin is using a flash meter to set his aperture, which will save you a lot of time, and a very versatile and reasonably priced flash head. I'll give you some links to information and pricing for the equipment below the video.

Ready? Here you go:

If you're interested in the equipment used in this shoot, here's the list:

Flashpoint SL-360 StreakLight 360 Watt-Seconds
Flashpoint Commander Transciever Set for StreakLight
Sekonic L-308s Light Meter

Agreed, Kelly. I saw that as part of the demonstration - simple lighting in a limited space and a little Ps magic.

One consideration that is easy to overlook in lighting selection is the speedring mount.  Linky for a map to that game -
