How to carry DSLR on a bike ride?

My wife and I just bought bikes and I'm wondering what is the best way to carry your camera on rides?  I'm hoping the answer is anything but a basket.

Backpack or sling pack.

You might be able to get away with a spider holster, also.

What? You don't like those cute little white wicker baskets with flowers, and bows. They used to make a nice little hanging bag with a heavy wire frame that went over the top of the bars, under the gooseneck. It had bungie cords to secure it, but instead I would use something you could synch up tighter, or it will bounce. Also they are not padded, so you would have to improvise with some foam inside. Or you have the standard rear rack, and a bag that secures to the top of it. Which again will not be padded either.

For this activity I'd not get a spider holster.  Nothing wrong with them, but hanging it down like that on a bike might be a bad idea.

Cotton Carrier would be the way to go (assuming you want it ready for use quickly, otherwise a backpack would be better).

I own a Spider Holster and although this is great for most occasions you would want hands free, this is not one of them.  Go with Cotton Carrier or alternatively use a small backpack.

How are you keeping a sling from creeping around to your side?

My LowePro sling AW200 has an additional strap for the opposite side, to hold it in place.
