Bleaching camera strap then dyeing yellow?

I saw another thread here and didn't want to hijack their topic.  Anyway that got me thinking.  Can bleach my black camera strap then dye it yellow?  Or would that destroy the strap?

In order to dye it properly, they will need to use high heat. So what ever strap you are thinking about, might shrink a little.  Also you want to make sure either bleach or the high heat doesn't damage it.  I think the bleach might make it a yucky yellow and the yellow dye might work.  Honestly not 100% sure on this.

Oh boy, not sure about that.  I better have my husband take a look at this.  Dumb question, will normal bleach, whiten leather too?

Your better off just buying something in yellow IMO

If the strap is made from woven nylon, it likely will not bleach, nor take a new color.

If it's leather, you'll destroy it.

Cloth, it'll probably just look like hell.

Bleach is destructive. Go shopping.

:agree:  bleach will destroy your strap.

Have you ever dyed anything? Haven't in years but what a mess! lol Have to cover anything within range of how far you might splatter it! and wear old clothes etc.

If you really want to try it, maybe go to a thrift store and see if you can find a junky strap to practice on and see if or how well it would work.

I'd try Adorama and see what you can find, or look up Mod camera straps, or see what else you can find.

As Gary said bleach is caustic, and will destroy your strap. Have you ever spilled it on a pair of pants? It bleaches the dye out, and then soon after little holes develop. So you have a choice buy a yellow strap, or if you are really ambitious make your own custom strap.

If you are determined to do this, try it first on something similar and see what happens.
