Research Study Shows Smartphones Causing Lower Sales of Point-and-Shoot Cameras
IHS, Inc., a major research firm, has conducted a study that reveals the increasing quality of digital photography technology in smartphones is expected to result in 2012 having the lowest digital cameras sales since 2009.
Consumers are showing a growing demand for a single-purpose digital device, instead of purchasing a separate phone and point-and-shoot-camera. The firm predicts that 2012 camera sales will decrease by 4.3 percent, or a total of 115.2 million units. Conversely, smartphone sales are projected to increase 35 percent to 642 million units for 2012.
