Antelope Canyon, one of the most popular photography destinations in Arizona (Grand Canyon aside), just announced they will no longer be hosting photography tours starting in 2020.
According to a representative from the Navajo National Parks, the tours are being cancelled due to negative feedback from attendees.
The last photography tour is set to depart from Upper Antelope Canyon on December 20th, 2019.
So, what does this mean for photographers who want to visit?

You don't need to hop on a plane by the end of the week if that's what you were thinking.
Photographers will still be able to take pictures on the regular tours, but they won't be able to bring tripods or monopods anymore. They also won't enjoy any of the perks that you used to get on their photography tours: like wide-open shots without any tourists in them and more time in the Canyon.

The Antelope Canyon photography tours came with a hefty price tag at $200 and many photographers complained about rushed photography sessions.
With the rise of social media, Antelope Canyon has become a destination not just for photographers, but for travelers of any kind.
This means the Navajo Nation went from hosting a small number of people every day to an incredibly overwhelming amount. Some programs are bound to get cut.
How do you feel about the fact that the program getting cut is for photographers?
