I take my photography gear very seriously. I’ve gone through an extensive series of trial and error in order to find the exact camera strap, lens bag, and tripod that work best for me. While a lot of this trial and error is likely something you’re going to need to complete for yourself, I do think that I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way that can help you be ready for the shot.
When you’re picking out photography gear, it’s a balancing act. You need to find gear that is light enough to be comfortable for you, while also being sturdy enough to last for years in inclement weather. Even if you’re strictly a studio photographer, I recommend trying to find equipment that can perform outdoors because you never know where your photography journey might take you.
You’re also balancing your budget with the comfortability and sturdiness of gear. Let’s be honest. It takes a really long time to start making money as a photographer at all and it takes even longer to get to a point where you aren’t worrying about your budget.
To help you start your equipment search, I’ve picked out three pieces of gear that will help you be ready for the shot when the time comes. All of the pieces on this list are relatively budget-friendly, comfortable, and sturdy. All of the pieces on this list will also help you to be ready for the shot because they are all about ease of use.
Holdfast Bolo Strap
The first piece of gear on this list is the Holdfast Bolo Strap, which is designed to help you be ready for the shot by keeping your camera exactly where you need it (within reach) at all times.
The Holdfast Bolo Strap comes in two different sizes. One is designed for you to wear your camera over your neck and the other is designed for you to keep your camera in your hands via a wrist strap.
Both of these bolo straps are designed specifically for smaller cameras, so they won’t be the most comfortable if you’re shooting with a serious DSLR setup. However, if you are shooting with a simple DSLR or a mirrorless camera, then it will be perfect.
This strap is made out of leather and stainless steel so that it only gets better with age. For this reason, it comes with a lifetime guarantee.
This bolo strap also comes in a variety of colors, like tan, burgundy, chestnut, and black to match any wardrobe.
This bolo strap will help you be ready for the shot by making it easy to take your camera with you everywhere you go. Plus, as an added bonus, the Holdfast Bolo Strap is only $45 for the wristlet or $55 for the shoulder strap.

Holdfast Explorer Lens Quiver
The next piece of gear that can help you be ready for the shot at all times is the Holdfast Explorer Lens Quiver.
This lens quiver is designed as a messenger bag, so it should be worn over your shoulder. It is designed to be slung over one shoulder for easy access to all of your gear. Most of the pockets on this bag don’t have any flaps or zippers so that you can immediately get to whatever gear you need out of it.
The bag is made out of twill canvas and leather. It only weighs 1 lb 3 oz so that you can carry it around all day without being uncomfortable.
The bag is designed around two large pockets, which will hold a camera and a lens, two lenses, or just about anything you need it to. It also features a smaller pocket with a zipper for carrying smaller items which might get lost otherwise, three d-rings for attaching things like keys, and 9 total pockets.
If you do already own a Holdfast MoneyMaker, which we have reviewed on PhotographyTalk before, then you’ll be happy to know that the Explorer Lens Quiver can actually attach to the back of your MoneyMaker.
The Explorer Lens Quiver Bag comes in a number of different colors, like indigo denim, waxed olive, and forest green, and costs $260.
Holdfast SD Memory Card Wallet
You can’t be ready for the shot without memory cards. But, unfortunately, memory cards are some of the most annoying things to carry around with you. As someone who loses almost everything I touch, new memory cards come and go way too quickly and I’m constantly worrying about memory cards with important photos on them.
The Holdfast SD Memory Card Wallet made my life so much easier. This wallet is an ultra slim wallet, which means that it is really easy to throw in your pocket, a purse, or a camera bag. Each wallet is designed to hold 6 different cards. Since these wallets are made out of leather, they will also essentially last forever.
Each wallet also comes with a small strap so that you can attach it to the outside of your camera bag or your belt so all of your memory cards are always within reach.
This wallet comes in brown, black, green or navy and costs $95.
With all of this gear, next time, you’ll be ready for the shot!
