I had the absolute pleasure to visit Hawaii a few years ago with my family. I had never been before and was excited to not only take a few days off, but to photograph my son and wife. I hadn’t had a serious shoot with the two of them since he was first born and I was thrilled to be doing so now that he had developed his own personality.
I thought that I had everything I might need for the shoot. We packed extra snacks for the kiddo, extra clothes in case of mud, and I had extra batteries and SD cards. Unfortunately, I had never really shot in muggy heat before. It was beyond humid (even the locals were complaining, so I know it was bad). And in that humidity, my camera strap became the most unbearable thing in the world.
It was a vegan leather strap, so I really should have known better. After that shoot I immediately went in search of a breathable camera strap. I knew that a cotton camera strap was probably my best bet, given the fact that I had a few friends from the midwest who all suggested them.
After a few tries, I found the perfect breathable camera strap and I’m never going back.
Introducing the Camera Swagg
The Camera Swagg is a camera harness made by my favorite harness creators: Holdfast. But, instead of being made in their regular buffalo leather, the Camera Swagg is made of 100% cotton canvas, which means it is a breathable camera strap.
It is designed exactly like the MoneyMaker, which is their best-selling leather harness. It still comes with metal d-rings and can hold two cameras at once (or three, if you opt for it). However, given its cotton build, it is far lighter than the traditional MoneyMaker.
So, even photographers who aren’t specifically looking for a breathable camera strap may find the Camera Swagg is exactly what they’re looking for, especially if they don’t shoot with a ton of heavy equipment all the time.
Given the fact that this breathable camera strap is designed for comfort, and not for longevity, it doesn’t have the same lifetime warranty that the traditional MoneyMaker does, but it does still get a 1 year warranty since the Holdfast creators are so proud of their work.
You can opt to get the Camera Swagg in a variety of colors, like black, navy, copper, and red, and can do so for $180.
How the Camera Swagg Works
If you haven’t ever heard of Holdfast’s MoneyMaker, then you may be wondering how the Camera Swagg setup works in practice.
This breathable camera strap features two long pieces of cotton that go over both of your shoulders. When you are carrying two cameras with the Camera Swagg, this allows each one of those cameras to be positioned at your side (within easy reach at all times for those quick shots).
This also ensures that all of the weight of your equipment is evenly distributed across your torso so that you don’t go home with sore shoulders at the end of a long day.
Every piece of hardware on the Camera Swagg is made out of stainless steel so that it won’t ever rust. There’s really no point in having a breathable camera strap if that strap doesn’t actually work in wet environments.
And, just like the original MoneyMaker, the Camera Swagg is designed to make you look professional in just about any setting. Whether it’s fair or not, people judge you based on how you look and a lot of camera straps either don’t look high-end enough to go along with my wardrobe or they are a little too eclectic for my tastes. The Camera Swagg’s design is clean, simplistic and beautiful so that I can always put my best foot forward.
