While it's no secret that China heavily relies on state surveillance to mediate their country of almost 1.5 billion people, the state's newest surveillance tactic is getting international attention.
In a new video released by Chinese state media, camera drones are being used to yell at people "defying orders to stay inside," according to ABC News.
These camera drones, which feature loudspeakers, allow authorities to speak directly with citizens on the streets, and are very Orwellian.
While the camera drones are getting the most attention in international media, the Chinese authorities have been using a slew of interesting technology to combat the disease, including facial recognition thermometers on public transit and AI cell phone apps that alert people if they've been on a flight with a coronavirus patient.
