What is a Custom Print on Metal?
A custom print on metal looks great, so exactly what is it, and how are they made? In simplest terms, a custom print on metal is a photographic enlargement made from metal instead of paper or canvas.
There are actually a couple of ways to make metal prints, but they only really count as HD metal prints. The most common method for many companies is a direct print. A better way is to use the dye sublimation process. There’s a third way, too - mount a print onto a metal backing.
The dye sublimation process is how a high-quality custom print on metal is made. A smooth, practically perfect thin sheet of aluminum is coated with a thin layer of a special material that allows the inks to bond with the aluminum instead of simply laying on top of the material.
The dye sublimation makes a very strong bond and a virtually scratch-free surface. The colors are awesome, and there is a slight difference in how some whites or clear spaces may appear depending on the metal sheen that's used.
The Chromaluxe™ coated aluminum sheets are archival quality, and combined with the expert processing from Artbeat Studios, these images can last a long time, not fading for 65 years!

The Surface Finish Options
Now we finally get to the options for your custom print on metal. The first option is similar to regular paper prints, the surface finish. Here are the surface options:
White Gloss - the standard finish from Artbeat Studios, a vibrant white high gloss surface provides brilliant colors and detail.
White Satin - has a similar vibrance as white gloss but with a reduced glare.
White Matte - also similar to white gloss but with even more glare reduction and a satin appearance.
Silver Gloss - the silver shows through the whites of your image which means slightly less vibrance than white and adds a unique feel to the image.
Textured Matte - a new textured matte surface from ChromaLuxe®, this has more texture on the surface than matte.
Mounting to the Wall
A custom print on metal looks amazing mounted on a wall. Artbeat Studios has two methods of wall mounting: inset mounting and flush mounting. The mount is also made of fine aluminum and adds to the elegant style.
The standard inset has the ¾” mount recessed from the edges, which gives the impression of the custom print on metal floating right next to the wall. The flush mount has the mount fitted to the edges, which gives a substantial look and feel to the print because it fits flush to the wall.
Framing Your Custom Print on Metal
Your custom print on metal doesn’t need a frame, but if you want one, there are two options in two colors each: white and black.
Made from real wood, the Box frames are ¾” wide with a depth of about 1 ⅓”. The outside edge of the print sits flush with the inside edge of the wood frame.
The unique Float frame is also made from real wood and is ¼” by 1 ¼”. It has a space built in that's ¼” from the outside edge of the print and the inside edge of the frame. It’s a fascinating display option that gives the print the appearance of floating within the frame.
