A camera wrist strap is a great alternative for modern digital cameras such as mirrorless cameras and crop format cameras. But, if designed well, you can hold just about any size camera with a digital camera wrist strap.

Drawbacks to Using a Digital Camera Wrist Strap
While a digital camera west strap will work fine for all sorts of different active photographic situations, there are a couple of drawbacks to consider.
One, if the camera and lens combination is very large and heavy, using a digital camera wrist strap can start to get a little uncomfortable after a while. Second, if you are going to use different lenses or other large accessories such as flash units, a digital camera wrist strap isn’t as convenient as other styles of straps.
We’re not stuck to one type of strap, though. I like to mount my cameras to a strap in the sling orientation via the tripod screw instead of the camera side lugs. That way, I can change out straps according to my current photo or video shoot needs.
