Female photographers have a difficult time in photography. Most equipment is created by men for men. Most clients think female photographers are the make-up artist when they first show up on set. The Guardian created an incredible photo-essay on how women are still battling sexism in the photography industry a few months ago.
This is why Leica created the Leica Women Foto Project, a scholarship dedicated to reframing "how we see, how we think, and how we express our visual narrative."
The project will give 3 female photographers a $10,000 prize and will loan them each a Leica Q2 for the year.
Each submission will be judged on the sophistication of the project, the technical quality of the photography, and the individual's dedication to the medium of photography. The lineup of judges is an impressive roster featuring Maggie Steber, a Guggenheim Fellow, and Deborah Willis, a professor at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, amongst others.
Editor's Tip: When having photos printed, one thing that people often miss is examining the type of materials used for the print. For the highest-quality prints, ensure that the printer uses commercial-grade inks resist moisture and fading for a long-lasting, beautiful print. If you choose to have a canvas print made, ensure the printer uses fine art-grade canvas because it's more durable. Get the scoop on the best canvas print companies in this head-to-head comparison.
