Went and Found Some Dark

Paid a visit to a nearby landmark to see the stars. Mostly interested in getting something for PP practice; these are a bit blurry but they're a start. I'm wanting to get to the point of doing a timelapse. I like the satellite streak in the first one.

I like #1 the best. There's gotta be some way to lift the nebulas.

Astrophotography was my full time job for 6 years, but that was with glass plates! Shooting digital would be starting all over.

You know, for me, #2 is the winner.  The level of sharpness and detail makes me appreciate the beauty that is above us.  Only if you can find this level of darkness.  You must have some nice country space where you are at.  Here we have to much light pollution.  Jealous.

Seems you have a Perseid in the first one....Oh, a satellite. Yeah, the drive shots look much better, I have the same issues when saving for web, or converting to sRGB.....

Why so serious?

Yeah, like I said, just a first cut at experimenting. I have lots to learn. But I'll be doing more.

It's always run to see what a long exposure will expose.   As it were...

I also like the first but both shots are exceptional.

I wish I could also do photographs like these. Really good. What's the details of these shots Gary?

Oh, sure. Not that I'm very adept at these...

Tripod, Nikon D750, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens. 28mm @ f/2.8, ISO 1600, 20 sec exposure. One thing that I tried with the PP was to push the Dehaze value in LR to 100. That seems to be a positive thing for theses types of shots. I've also learned that pushing the saturation and luminance of the individual colors can help.

It think any camera with reasonably good ISO performance can be used, along with a reasonably fast lens.. The real trick is in the post, IMO.

Both are great shots and better than anything I have been able to produce to this point.

G'day Gary

Just for my own confusion - you mention 'time lapse' ... are you after extended-time exposures showing star trails -or- fixed images showing nebulae and suchlike?

No, a timelapse. A series of shots that, when put together as a video, show star movement.

Like what this guy does:
