best software for a beginner photogrphaer

My first beginner software was Photo Impact Ulead, of course this is dating back a few years. Although it's easy to use, I wouldn't say it's the best beginner software. I think each software has it's own level of what the photographer wants to do. Such as, Elements is a nice step to get you ready for photoshop.

Photoshop was my first, & is the best place to start. Everything is just delaying the inevitable. Same goes for Lightroom.

I started out with Roxio. It was easy to learn and worked very effectively. Recently I bought Photoshop Elements and wish I had not spent the money for it. It is not easy to learn.

I've used Roxio too. Starting out with Elements, the "Guided Edit Mode" is fairly easy to navigate -

My step-son is using PhotoScape and loves it. It does simple edits in a very intuitive way. And it's set up in a way that you can transfer the knowledge you gain to other software programs if you ever decide you want to advance. Plus, it helps that it's a free download. Good luck!

I can't input a link for you, but if you google it, it comes right up.

The "other" Google editor, Picasa, has had a number of Picnik's features added. Free at www.picasa.com it is simple, easy to use, and has amazing help/tutorials. Not a heavyweight editor but will keep you going when Picnik passes away.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I use Paint Shop Pro. It has all of the capabilities of Photoshop that I need, but can be purchased between $60 and $100, depending on where you buy it.

Start with GIMP (free) and get your feet wet. Then consider other programs such as Paint Shop Pro, or other programs. Attached is a photo of one of my granddaughters. She is into fairies, and I did this one for her birthday. It uses the layer capabilities of Paint Shop Pro.

Nicely done, Ken. I need to get deeper into my Corel. I upgraded to Photo Pro X4 and you are correct, it does do a ton of things and it is inexpensive.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
