Where are you setting your ISO when doing indoor portraits?

Can I set my ISO under 200 when doing indoor shots? Are there any downsides if I'm using on a tripod?

Sure, as long as you have enough light to get what you want.

The downside of a tripod is less mobility.

If I want background ambient light to expose I use a higher ISO. If I don't want ambient light to expose I use a low ISO.

Changing the ISO Settings on your camera, changes the sensitivity to light of the image sensor inside of it,
when using a tripod you might be able to use a slower shutter speed which will allow you to lower your ISO.
Try these exposure combinations settings as a starting point, if not using a flash; Set camera to AV(Aperture Priority), Aperture at f/2.8 or widest allowed by your lens, ISO 800, TV(Shutter speed) 1/100 sec or higher...lighting conditions of room must be adequate also. Hope this helps. ;)

Depends on how much light you have to work with and what lens you are are using. I'll have my camera usually around 200 to 400 ISO.

All depends on light source, are you using flash? Try it and look at results.. I use ISO 100 in my studio 80% of the time..

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

The lowest I can get away with and still have correct exposure while getting the right shutter or aperture that is desired.
