Do you use manual focus much?

Other than for macro photography is there real any purpose to manual focus these days? I was just playing around and it's time consuming manual focusing normal shots. When your trying to take shots quickly it's a dead horse.

For technical photography I use MF a lot. Otherwise, no. Do wish my Canon 50D AF would let me "group" AF points like the expensive full frame cameras.

I use it most of the time.

When I have to shoot quickly, I definitely use auto focus or I'll miss the shot. Otherwise, if I can take my time, I always try to use manual focus. I'm kind of a control freak that way! ;)

I use it about half the time, almost always when shooting macro.......;)

Why so serious?

Or if the lighting is challenging and there's not enough contrast for the AF system.

Otherwise, AF. Too slow at MF; my eyes aren't good enough.

I use it when I'm using my older manual focus lenses. If I'm using newer AF lenses, then I use AF( reason being, most AF lenses suck at being focused manually)....Simple, no?

Granted, but there are situations where AF simply can't find enough contrast to work properly. And getting the right exposure in challenging lighting conditions almost requires manual focusing and manual shutter speed control to find ghe right exposure. Not to speak of control over the focus point for DOF managemen. Does someone feel threatened by someone manually controlling the camera?

If I bought a Zeiss lens I would.

Only 10% maybe 15% of the time max. I'm thinking realistically closer to the 10.

Just for macro or when I'm using live view mode

Most of the time it's AF but, when shooting Macro or playing with the 100-400 with the 2x on then its Manual as no other choice :)
